Roland Michener Secondary School junior high boys Rams are the divisional curling champs. They were undefeated (5 – 0) at the divisional tournament on Jan. 29 in High Prairie.

The Rams have had high school curling for a while, but junior high is new.

“We hope that by having junior high teams they can stick together for many years to come and be competitive teams in high school curling,” says coach Brandon Rubisch.

The Rams sent three teams to divisionals. The boys won. The mixed team was fourth.

Rubisch describes the semi-final game as “nail-biting.”

The girls team lost all five of their games.

“But had a great day and got lots of experience to take into next year,” adds Rubisch.

Divisionals is the end of the line for junior high.

As for senior high curling, Roland Michener is sending boys, girls and mixed teams to the North Central Zone tournament in Drayton Valley on Feb. 16 and 17. All three Michener teams are returning to the tournament as defending champions. If they win, they advance to provincials.
