School fishing

On June 6, an event called ‘Kids Can Catch’ happened at the Lesser Slave River weir. It was put on by the Slave Lake Rod & Gun Club. The event was put on to show kids how to fish and how to respect it, says Scott Iverson, one of the organizers.
Kids Can Catch has been going on for 10 years. It is done all over, Iverson says.
Pictured is Payton Bowes, a Grade 9 student at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School. She caught a northern pike and from the looks of it, it was a nice size too!
