It’s been an unusually violent summer in the region, if three shooting deaths are anything to go by. It started when Swan River First nation member Randy Courtorielle was gunned down in Kinuso in July.
Then on August 12, Anton Vincent Carifell of McLennan was shot to death in Peace River.
Three days after that, Driftpile was the scene of a fatal shooting. Brandon Lee Campiou, 29 was the victim.
People have been arrested in all three cases. Charges of manslaughter have been laid in all three incidents.
In the Driftpile case, police have a 32-year-old Edmonton man in custody.
There was no news released, in any of the three cases, about what motivated the three shootings. The manslaughter charges suggest police do not think any of the shootings was pre-meditated, or intended to kill.
In the Peace River case, the shooting happened “in the downtown area,” the news release says. When police and EMS arrived, the victim was alive and was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the next day. The alleged shooter is a 25-year-old resident of Peace River.
In the Kinuso case, police say the victim and suspect knew each other. The alleged shooter was “quickly located, contained and arrested.”
The shooter is identified as a 42-year-old resident of Edmonton.
