The Smith school is hosting an antler show and scoring event on Saturday, January 26.
It’s called ‘Show off your Rack,’ and is being held at the Smith Community Complex.
Gade 2/3 teacher Jennifer McLeod explains the event will be a fundraiser for students planning a trip to Australia and New Zealand in July of 2020.
“We have a small group of kids going and really want the event to be a success,” McLeod says.
The fundraiser will have six $100 cash prizes for the top scoring antlers harvested in the 2018 season. McLeod adds there will be at least two gun draws for those bringing in antlers to show, raffle items to buy tickets on and a big ticket item of a shoulder mount, donated by Extreme Taxidermy out of Westlock. That and other sponsorship is greatly appreciated, McLeod says.
Registration and score will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. There will be several categories for both mule and white tail deer. Food will be available at the cafeteria.
