Slave Lake Christian Academy embraces truth

A new school year brings new opportunities for students at Slave Lake Christian Academy, where faith, honesty and community are at the heart of this year’s learning.

The school has welcomed returning students and several new faces for the 2026 to 2027 school year, with 76 students currently enrolled and the possibility of more joining in the coming days.

Principal Alma Hyseni says the school year is off to a great start, with staff and families looking forward to another year of learning and growing together

Hyesini says this year’s theme is “Speak the truth to each other,” taken from Zechariah 8:16. It encourages students to practice honesty in their everyday lives, even when telling the truth may be difficult.

According to Hyseni, the theme was chosen because of the importance of raising truthful citizens in today’s world.
The message will extend beyond the classroom and become part of students’ daily activities. It will be incorporated into Bible lessons, chapel, morning devotions and Bible Mastery.

Hyseni says speaking the truth has always been part of the school’s teachings, but this year’s theme provides an opportunity to place an even greater emphasis on honesty when dealing with everyday situations.

Along with its spiritual teachings, the academy will continue to prioritize literacy and numeracy achievements, biblical integration and community involvement.

The school also plans to strengthen connections between students and the wider Slave Lake community by encouraging students to participate in community activities and welcoming community members into the school.

Another important part of the academy is its music program, which Hyseni describes as a place where students thrive and develop their skills and love for music.

For Hyseni, one of the most exciting parts of the new school year is continuing to work alongside the school’s staff, board and supportive families.

“Being a good role model for the young generation is a priority for me, the staff and board at the school,” she says.
She adds that the academy takes pride in knowing its students and their families personally, creating a close-knit school community.

“Our school is known for having 100 per cent parental involvement in the various areas of the school,” says Hyseni.

The academy offers smaller class sizes, Alberta-certified teachers, biblical integration and a Christian education in what Hyseni describes as a safe and caring environment.

Although the school is small, Hyseni believes it has plenty to offer families in Slave Lake.
As the school year continues, she looks forward to seeing students grow academically, spiritually and personally while strengthening their relationships with one another.
