Shawn Cordeiro is the new bylaw officer at the Town of Slave Lake. He’ll be doing it part time and it will include animal control, but not be limited to that.
According to senior peace officer Mark Becker, there wasn’t enough work in animal control to justify a position exclusively for that, so Cordeiro will be covering that, plus general duties.
Cordeiro – already a busy fellow – will now be even busier.
“It’s a way to give back,” he says. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Cordeiro is a native of Thunder Bay Ontario. He’s been in Alberta eight years – four in Edmonton before coming to Slave Lake. He started his job on May 23 and has been doing lots of training so far. The job calls for 36 hours per two weeks. It’ll be spread around in the gaps between Cordeiro’s full-time job as an operator at Tolko and his duties as a volunteer firefighter.
Outside of work and volunteering, Cordeiro says he enjoys hunting, fishing and camping.
