The Northern Lakes College (NLC) celebrated the achievements of its graduates during its 2026 graduation ceremony held June 5 at the Slave Lake Multi Rec Centre.
Graduates, family members, friends, instructors, and college staff gathered to recognize the hard work and dedication of students from across the region.
This year, 1,192 students graduated from Northern Lakes College programs. Throughout the ceremony, instructors and staff shared congratulatory messages, recognizing the perseverance and determination that helped students reach this milestone.
The ceremony also highlighted the college’s history and growth over the years. College representatives noted that Northern Lakes College officially launched under its current name on August 25,1999. Its roots, however, go back from 1970, when education technicians were trained at the Alberta Vocational Centre in Grouard. The program prepared Indigenous students to provide adult basic education instruction in Community Vocational Centres throughout the region. In 1996, the institution celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Courtney Cunningham, the 2026 valedictorian, delivered an inspiring address to her fellow graduates.
She congratulated the Class of 2026 and reflected on the challenges, sacrifices, and determination that brought students to graduation day.
Cunningham encouraged graduates to be proud of their accomplishments and to recognize the resilience they demonstrated throughout their educational journeys.
The ceremony concluded with graduates crossing the stage to receive their credentials, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
Cheers and applause filled the venue as family members and friends celebrated the graduated students.
