Two soccer teams from Slave Lake competed at the Tier 4 Rural provincial championships in Leduc, July 4 – 6. They were the U15 and U13 teams from the Slave Lake Soccer and Futsal Club.

The teams qualified after some excellent results during the short season.

The U13s did best, winning their first game and losing the next two. This put them in sixth place overall in the tournament, which Head Coach Esther Bylsma calls “an amazing accomplishment. We are so proud of our players and so thankful for our coaches and parents.”

The U15s had a tougher time. Only having one spare player played a part in their winless record.

However, five of the players made the ‘top overall players’ list, Bylsma says, “including two of our female players breaking through on the boys’ side.”

Again, Bylsma makes a point of thanking the coaches, family members and fans who came out to cheer the team.

The fall futsal season (futsal being a type of indoor soccer) starts in September.

“We are excited to watch soccer soar in Slave Lake and can’t wait to see what these players continue to do,” Bylsma says.
