Slave Lake residents will have another chance to turn unwanted household items into cash — and shoppers will have an opportunity to hunt for deals across town — when the Slave Lake Town-Wide Sale returns Sept. 11–13.
Now in its second year, the annual event, hosted by the Slave Lake & District Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Slave Lake, brings together garage sales, yard sales, sidewalk sales and business promotions throughout the community.
Residents and businesses planning a sale that weekend can register for free to have their location added to the official Town-Wide Sale map.
The registration deadline is Sept. 10.
Garage and yard sales are already a familiar sight during the warmer months in Slave Lake and are generally well-attended, with residents regularly using local community Facebook groups to advertise sales. The Town-Wide Sale builds on that interest by encouraging more sales to take place during the same weekend.
For sellers, the event offers a chance to clear out closets, basements and garages while making money from items they no longer need.
Shoppers can find used furniture, household goods, clothing, children’s items, tools and other goods at prices below what they might pay new.
Local businesses can also participate through sidewalk sales and other promotions.
A 2025 edition was held Sept. 5 and similarly invited residents to participate in garage and sidewalk sales, with sellers registering to appear on a community map.
A Facebook announcement for last year’s event encouraged residents to spend the weekend “treasure hunting” throughout the community.
The town-wide format creates a single weekend when residents can explore different neighbourhoods and visit multiple sales, rather than relying on signs or advertisements for individual garage sales.
The official map gives shoppers a way to identify participating sales before heading out, while free registration makes it easier for residents to join the event.
There can also be a practical economic benefit for households.
Sellers can recover some of the money spent on items they no longer use, while buyers can find needed goods without paying full retail prices.
This can be particularly useful for families looking for inexpensive children’s clothing, toys, furniture and household items. As children outgrow their toys and clothing, families often turn to yard sales to clear out these items.
The event also keeps some buying and selling within the local community, allowing residents to deal directly with one another while businesses offer local promotions.
The local buy-and-sell community is already active outside the event. Recent posts in Slave Lake community Facebook groups have advertised garage sales featuring clothing, children’s items, kitchen goods, household items and homemade preserves.
The Town-Wide Sale brings that activity together and gives shoppers an easier way to find sales across town.
Organizers are encouraging residents to register early and spread the word, with the goal of filling the map with participating sales.
The 2026 Town-Wide Sale runs from Sept. 11 to 13. Residents hosting a garage sale, yard sale, sidewalk sale or business sale that weekend can register for free through the Town of Slave Lake’s Town-Wide Sale page. Registration closes Sept. 10.
The more sellers that participate, the more useful the map becomes — and the more opportunities shoppers have to find a deal.
