Students receive a boisterous reading prize

Slave Lake students got to watch a major junior hockey game as a prize for reading.

Kylie DeLeeuw teaches Grade 4/5 at Slave Lake Christian Academy in Slave Lake.

She entered her students into the ‘Reading, Give It a Shot’ program, sponsored by the Edmonton Oilers.

The entry form includes how much reading students do each week. The form enters the class for a draw to win Oilers and Oil Kings merchandise and tickets.

The Grade 4/5 class won tickets to an Oil Kings game on March 15 in Roger’s Place in Edmonton.

“I had never been to Roger’s Place before!” one student told DeLeeuw. “I couldn’t believe how big the arena was and how loud the cheering was!”

“I had so, so much fun!” another told her. “It was such a cool experience.”

“I highly recommend this program,” says DeLeeuw, “not only for the possible experiences, but because it also encourages your students to keep on reading!”
