On May 10, 2025, Faust RCMP were conducting an investigation into stolen vehicles when officers out on patrol located one of them. It was occupied.
RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle, but its driver had other ideas. According to the May 14 news release, it “fled to the area of Joussard, Alta, after attempting to ram several police vehicles and run others off the road.”
Faust RCMP called in help from High Prairie RCMP as well as Grande Prairie Police Dog services, but the suspects were not located.
Two days later, on May 12, Faust RCMP got a tip about the location of the suspects, who were barricaded in a residence in Driftpile Cree Nation. “Faust RCMP and Lakeshore Regional Police then surrounded the residence and were able to talk one suspect out of the residence before entering to arrest the second.”
The investigation led to charges against a 29-year-old man, of no fixed address, and a 22-year-old female resident of Driftpile. They are both charged with assault with a weapon, failure to stop, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer. The man was further charged with possession of a weapon while prohibited.
The pair were brought before a justice of the peace, who released the woman on conditions. The man was remanded into custody. Her first court date is in High Prairie on June 2; his first court date was May 14, in Edmonton.
“We would like to thank the members of the public who allowed us to conduct our investigation safely by following the safety guidelines we provided” said Cst. Tyler Bell of the Faust RCMP Detachment. “Faust RCMP and Lakeshore Regional Police Service work strongly together to provide the best services to our communities in order to keep our communities safe.”
