The Page

You sure have to give it up to the Animal Rescue Committee of Slave Lake (ARC), it’s always taking in more animals than it should and always ready to help. We heard that this week a cluster of kitties had to be put into the new shelter before its even ready to house them because all ARC’s foster homes are full. ARC’s Facebook paged asked for donations of kitty litter and food for the poor little guys. We also heard that it is a good idea to spay and neuter your felines.

We’re really happy for you Daren Koppang! Who would have thought you’d purchase a winning lottery ticket here in Slave Lake? Probably not you, for starters, but here you are $100,000 richer than you were last month. Make sure you don’t forget about ye olde local rag when you’re out and about shopping. Leader staff Perri Walker (Morris) says she remembers you from her hometown, Lindbergh, Alberta.
The Leader heard the news from Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission right before press time.

It’s all fun and games until the office computers crash – it really makes putting a paper together that much more interesting. Luckily thanks to our makeshift IT guru Tammy we were able to get most of the kinks worked out. Whatever did we do before technology?

There are comic conventions, outdoor conventions, heck there are even food conventions but, have you ever heard of a hedgehog convention? There’s one happening in August over in Grande Prairie. What’s next? A rat convention?

If you haven’t read about the Canyon Creek man stuck in Thailand already on Page 3, here’s your chance. Greg Oslund suffered through a stroke recently that has left him partially paralyzed and with infection. It’s always unfortunate when things like this happen, but even more so when it’s happened across the world and in an unfamiliar place. Oslund’s health insurance won’t cover any of the cost, so his friends and family have started up a GoFundMe page to raise donations. Since its launch, the campaign has raised just over $7,000 out of a $50,000 goal. You can visit it at https://www.gofundme.com/4dvcyr-bring-greg-home.
