Correction: Town of Slave Lake administration had the details incorrect about the library card fees for Smith Library and Flatbush Library. These libraries only offer free cards for seniors (60+). The other fees are students $10, adults $15, and families $15.
The library fees were mentioned in the article, ‘Town council approves removal of library card fees.’ The fees are still in place at all regional libraries, as the M.D. of Lesser Slave River also has to vote on the bylaw. Not sure when the M.D. will weigh in on it, as it didn’t happen at the Sept. 24 meeting.
Thanks to Winnie Lehman for pointing out that three clues were missing from the Sept. 24 Crossword. They are:
- Having a great deal of money
- Referring to a baby in its mother’s womb
- University in Texas or last name of an American rapper
Sometimes The Leader reporters go in-person to inquire about an interview or to get answer about something. Last week, one of our reporters went to Scotiabank in Slave Lake to talk to one of the bank tellers about an interview for an article. Her name is Narae Dan and she is from South Korea. We asked her if she’d be interested in being interviewed about her culture. Dan agreed but the interview can’t take place until October 14. Shucks! We’re looking for more interviewees in the meantime for more culture articles, if you or know anyone who would be interested in being interviewed their culture, call the office at 780-849-4380 and ask for Chastin Martel.
The Leader has a new salesperson. Her name is Shyna White. She’s new at this sort of thing and we hope she does well here!
If you want to buy an ad, give her a call at 780-849-4380 or email lakesideleader@gmail.com.

Looking for fall photos for you or your family? We hear Photos by Chastin is offering a such thing.

Peace River School Division board met on Sept. 18. Some of the highlights sent out by the division include preparation for the election and the preliminary enrolment numbers.
The division expects this to be the largest election since 2017. The school election will be at the same location as municipal elections. If the municipality has an advanced poll, so will the division.
Regarding enrolment, overall the number of students has decreased, but Red Earth Creek School and seven others have increased enrolment.
