This week’s Good Neighbour is Landon Horsley. He was nominated for helping someone during an accident.
“He stayed with her, notified her family, called 911 for assistance, and remained by her side until everything was settled. It was a simple and unexpected act of kindness that truly deserves to be recognized,” says the nominator.
For his nomination, Landon received a $25 gift certificate for Southshore Hidden Treasures in Slave Lake. To nominate your Good Neighbours, contact The Leader at 780-849-4380 or lakesideleader@gmail.com.

The Lakeside Leader has finally received some calls about our search for local volunteers.
So far, three people have been nominated, and we would love to hear about even more. Their pictures will be in the paper in the next following weeks.
There are so many people in our communities who give their time to help others, whether it is at local events, with sports teams, community organizations or simply helping wherever they are needed.
We think those people deserve a little recognition.
If you know someone who volunteers and deserves to be featured in The Leader, give us a call at 780-849-4380 and tell us about them. We want to celebrate the people who help make our communities a better place.

One of The Leader’s reporters was out walking around town last week when they spotted a group of birds hanging out on the roof of Northern Lakes College and, of course, we had to take a picture.
Back at the office, this sparked a conversation about why the birds chose that particular spot. Maybe they simply enjoy hanging out together, or perhaps the rooftop was nice and warm.
Whatever the reason, they certainly found themselves a good place to gather.

Looking for something to do with the kids before summer comes to an end?
The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library has been holding Yoga Outdoors throughout July and August.
The program runs Fridays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. behind the library, weather permitting.
It is for families and children ages four to eight and includes 15 to 20 minutes of yoga followed by an activity.
Children must be accompanied by an adult, and a release of liability form must be signed before the class. Participants are also asked to call the library to register.
There isn’t much of August left, so check it out while you still can. Call the library at 780-849-5250.
