January 30, 2021 at approximately 12:13 PM, the RCMP were called to a tow yard in Slave Lake for a theft in progress. Members of the Slave Lake Detachment responded and located a vehicle with two female occupants.

The complainant told RCMP there was a third person involved, who had fled the scene prior to police arriving and was hiding in the area. The complainant also said the three suspects were stealing catalytic converters off the impounded vehicles.

Police located a third suspect a short time later. All three were arrested and transported to the Slave Lake Detachment. After a search warrant was granted by a justice of the peace, RCMP searched the vehicle that the suspects were driving. Police found catalytic converters, break-in instruments and a small quantity of what is suspected to be methamphetamine.

All three suspects were charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and were held for a judicial interim release. Two of them were remanded in custody and one was released. Two were to appear in Slave Lake Provincial Court via CCTV on February 3rd, 2021; the other is to appear in March of this year.

Slave Lake RCMP continues to investigate this matter. Anyone with information that might assist, please contact the Slave Lake RCMP at 780-849-3999 or your local police detachment.
