Slave Lake’s three U13 hockey teams all won their respective tournaments on the weekend. A dozen teams took part in the event, representing three different tiers of hockey. Each tier was its own tournament.
Slave Lake 1 competed in the Tier II group, and ended up winning in the final over Whitemud West, a team from Edmonton, by a score of 8 – 4. Grayson Conrad scored a hat trick in the game. Slave Lake enjoyed a 6 – 1 lead after two periods, but Whitemud started the third with three goals in less than three minutes to make things interesting.
Slave Lake 2 was in a barnburner of a final against Westlock in the Tier IV group. It came down to a shootout after the score was still tied 2 – 2 after a five-minute overtime period. Bjornson, Donaldson and Beaupre scored in the shootout to give Slave Lake the victory.
The Tier 6 tournament ended in a 6 – 2 win for Slave Lake #3 over a team from Grande Prairie. Gerald Giroux scored the winning goal.
All three teams get back into Northern Interlock League play this weekend.
