While all the attention in Slave Lake was on the U13 provincials, one other Slave Lake minor hockey team was in action. The U11 #1 Thunder were in the Tier 1 league final in Vegreville, one of five teams in a double-knockout type of tournament over three days. The other teams were St. Paul, CNN, Vegreville and Mannville.

The Thunder got knocked out by two straight losses. Saturday morning they lost 7 – 5 to host Vegreville, and that same afternoon they lost 10 – 3 to Mannville.

Jacob Pelley scored five of his team’s goals in the first game, with Ethan Griffith getting the other one. Hunter Herbert faced 29 shots in the Slave Lake goal.

In the game against Mannville, Pelley scored twice and Cohen Dahlgren once. Herbert made 33 saves in the loss.

That ends what was otherwise a successful season for the Thunder. They won their West Division quite handily, with a record of 22 wins, eight losses and two ties.
