Video – Day of Friendship June 4, 2021

On June 4, the Slave Lake Native Friendship Centre held its annual Day of Friendship. This is held at all Friendship Centres across Canada. The event started in front of the Town of Slave Lake office. Devin Bellerose, from Driftpile First Nation, drummed and sang. Also, dancers from nearby First Nations danced.
Participants walked from the town office to the Friendship Centre. At the Friendship Centre, a teepee was set up. The Swan River First Nation School students also danced, and there was a drive-thru BBQ.
The Friendship Centre provides programs for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, said Barb Courtorielle, executive director. These include help with job applications, seniors programming, a newly renovated youth centre, the food bank, a secondhand store, and an Indigenous arts and crafts store.
