Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair is back in the United Conservative Party caucus in the provincial government!
He returned to caucus May 7 after being expelled March 8, 2025.
First elected in the last provincial election May 29, 2023, he has been passionate about the region and citizens he serves. That was demonstrated when he expressed concerns about the 2025 provincial budget he said was not good for Northern Alberta. Sinclair highlighted the gap in natural resources in the North and funding allocated to the North.
Sinclair received strong support from many people and community leaders, including Big Lakes County Reeve Tyler Airth and M.D. of Lesser Slave River Reeve Murray Kerik.
Airth said the budget did not reflect priorities of the Big Lakes region as he stated in a letter posted on Big Lakes’ website.
Kerik applauded Sinclair for speaking for his constituents.
“The mere fact you have a man that’s actually trying to do some good and he gets penalized for it,” Kerik said when interviewed by CBC News.
“I hope they do something to fix this.”
That’s what citizens want their MLA – and MP – to do!
They want their provincial and elected representatives to do what’s best for their communities first – not to simply tow the party line.
MLAs and MPs represent the people in their constituencies. Even while he was an independent MLA for 14 months, Sinclair, remained committed to his constituency.
When the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission proposed to abolish the longtime Lesser Slave Lake riding in the interim report presented to government Oct. 27, 2025, Sinclair immediately spoke supporting his constituents. The boundaries commission maintained the Lesser Slave Lake riding as it released its final report with proposed electoral divisions on March 27.
The UCP government gave special notice April 16 that it would toss out the entire report and form a committee of four UCP MLAs and two NDP MLAs and do its own review.
Sinclair needs to keep on top of that issue to speak for the people in the North and across Alberta.
An MLA has more power when in the government. Now that Sinclair is back in the UCP caucus, he can be a stronger and more effective voice in government – for the people.
He will surely be busy over the next several months reconnecting with local and Indigenous governments to help them to make stronger and sustainable communities with government support.
Sinclair is sure to be out to many community events to connect with citizens.
Then he will be gearing up to the next provincial election is schedule for Oct. 18, 2027, according to legislation.

Scott Sinclair has ignored over 145 emails I’ve sent him since he was elected. I’m not sure how anyone can be pleased with his supposed leadership when he ignores his constituents.
You picked a terrible time to hop back on the Smith Ship…Didn’t she tell you, her ship is going down,
hope you brought your life jacket.
