A team from Whitefish (Daniel’s) was the ‘A’ winner of this year’s Battle of the Nations slowpitch tournament, held in Slave Lake Aug. 17 – 19. They defeated the defending champion Loon River team in the Sunday evening final.

“We battled all the way back,” says Loon River shortstop Tyler Letendre, “but by the final we were just too gassed.”

Dalton Tallman of the winning team says Loon River had beaten them in the round robin, but Whitefish came back and broke open a close game to win the final by a bunch.

“We mercied them,” he says.

Sixteen teams took part in the tournament this year – eight each in two divisions. Winning the ‘B’ division was Driftpile, over Gift Lake.

Carla Letender of Cadotte Lake takes a swing in a game against one of the Whitefish teams from the second day of the tournament.
