Fire permits required

Alberta Wildfire says fire permits are required from March 1 to Oct. 31 for burning, with the exception of campfires, within Alberta’s Forest Protection Area.
Fire permits are free and can be requested online at firepermits.alberta.ca.
Permits can also be requested by calling local forestry offices. The Slave Lake office can be reached at 780-849-7377, Wabasca at 780-891-3860 and High Prairie at 780-523-6619.

Preventing wildfires

Alberta Wildfire is also reminding people to take precautions when working or recreating outdoors.
Anyone using equipment that produces sparks should work away from dry grass and have water and a shovel nearby.
The report also says that campfires should be built in a proper fire ring on a non-combustible surface. Fires should never be left unattended and water should always be nearby. Before heading outdoors, residents are encouraged to check Alberta Fire Bans.
