Wildfire Prevention Officer
Cooler temperatures may signal the arrival of fall, but wildfire season is far from over in the Slave Lake Forest Area.
As grasses and other vegetation dry out, they create an abundance of flammable fuel. Any spark or friction can ignite these dry grasses, and once a fire starts, it can spread quickly. Most wildfires reported in the fall are human-caused, which means they are largely preventable.
Firefighters remind everyone to use caution when working or recreating outdoors.
A fire restriction is in effect for the Slave Lake Forest Area. Safe campfires in campgrounds and backyards are allowed, but all other types of burning are prohibited.
We want to thank the many firefighters, aircraft pilots, equipment operators, fire departments, and support staff who have worked tirelessly to protect communities and forests this year.
Firefighters and aircraft will remain on alert throughout the fall. If you spot smoke or a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473), and check the Alberta Fire Bans website for the latest information on fire restrictions across the province.
